Is the iPhone Measure app accurate?

Quick answer
For furniture, rooms and planning, phone measuring is close enough. Small errors grow with distance and in bad light. For anything you will cut, check with a real tape.

How phone measuring works
Apple’s Measure app and apps like Tapepal use the camera and motion sensors to work out where surfaces are. Some iPhones also have a LiDAR scanner, which reads depth directly.
Get the best reading
- Use good lightDaylight or a bright room. Dim light makes the camera guess.
- Get closerStand where both ends are in view, not across the room.
- Aim at texturePlain white walls are harder to read than wood, tiles or fabric.
- Move slowlyLet the camera see the room before you tap.

Questions
Does Tapepal work without LiDAR?
Yes. Lengths, the level and the ruler work on any supported iPhone. Room scans need LiDAR.
Why does the reading jump?
Usually low light, a plain surface, or moving too fast. Step closer and try again.
Is Apple’s Measure app already on my iPhone?
Yes, it comes with iOS.
